My Work Experience
Day One
Today started off with an informative talk from the Owner; John, on all of the systems that make Surf N Play tick. Ranging from the Cd Server to the Cafe Agent Software that is the backbone of Surf N Play's administration.
After a quick cup of coffee it was time to open shop. Things started off quietly but as 10:30 came around, the centre starting filling with customers...Time to demonstrate the processes that I had been taught. After serving a few customers for computer time and drinks, I started to become familiar with how things worked, in any case I had John keeping an eye out incase I messed up as I'm sure he didn't want customers getting undercharged!
As lunch time rolled around I was given an hours lunch break, during which I tested out a few of the games that Surf N Play has to offer. No complaints here!
As the afternoon rolled around John started to teach me the basics of Html Code, which isn't nearly as difficult as the name suggests.
After a little practice I started to make this webpage, which didn't actually take me too long!
Day Two
Today started off quite busy, with a total of 9 customers at around 11am. Had a crash course in the faxing machine and have finally mastered how to use it. I still can't operate the till key on the chain...damn evil chain. In the end I decided just to leave it in the till, belt holder and all.
After washing up all of the cups, forks and glasses, the most awesome task ever! I was assigned the task of documenting all of the versions of Non Game and Non Microsoft software on the counter and all 10 computer workstations, which was a more complicated task. After that...lunch break and a quick trip to the bakery for John's semi-daily Sandwich. ;)
In the afternoon I was given the chance to learn Hexi Decimal and binary code which then proceeded into arranging the colour of the backgrounds and font. After this I had the task of helping some customers with learning how to play a new game called Titan Quest.
Day Three
Today started off as the busiest day of all; Microsoft update day!! After unlocking all of the pc's, installing the updates and then locking them again, which took a total of half an hour! We found that Titan quest had a patch too. : (
Around lunchtime I was given the task of cleaning the keyboards and monitors, my equipment; a dishcloth and a bottle of Mr Muscle!
After this I was given the oppotunity to test Titan Quest and see what bugs had been addressed by the patch.
Later on in the day I was given the task of producing a marketing presentation for Surf N Play.
Day Four
Today started off with alot of changes to the machines; installing various software and uninstalling the older versions to make way for the updates.
After alot of clicking and running around the job was done, time for some coffee! After this I had an afternoon of finishing my presentation and serving customers.
Final Day
Got in today at 9:05 and was given the immediate task of making the coffee and sweeping the floor.
After this, I had to help some customers send some faxes, then introduce a customer to the system here at Surf N Play. Later on that day I had a visit from Mr Gwilliam, the deputy head of sixth form, he seemed prett Afy impressed ;).
Then...lunchtime and over to get John another semi daily sandwich.
The afternoon was quite quiet so I enjoyed a final game of UT with a few friends as the shop was nearly empty. I finished up the day by writing up the events!
